This small clip illustrates one activity which coaches and/or parents can do to develop a pick up and shot on goal from close range. This activity has many levels to it as it get players to use various skills around the ground such as;

– Picking up the ball under pressure
– Hitting targets under pressure
– Putting in second efforts
– Fitness and agility training

Additionally, the coach can be substituted as another player working together to make this work. Maybe a ruck can practice their taps as well.

As with all junior fundamental skill development, having a high ball ratio per player and getting all kids involved in the activity makes footy sessions more efficient, effective and enjoyable.
